Every stride counts on Global Running Day, an annual celebration of the sport that brings people of all backgrounds and abilities together through a shared love of running. Whether you're a seasoned marathoner, a weekend jogger, or just lacing up your shoes for the first time, this day is all about embracing the power of movement.
Held on the first Wednesday of June, Global Running Day is a chance to reflect on why we run—whether it’s for health, stress relief, connection, or pure fun—and to inspire others to get moving, too. Not sure how to celebrate? Here are five simple and meaningful ways to mark the occasion, get your heart pumping, and maybe even fall a little more in love with running.
1. (The Obvious Answer) Go for a RUN
Whether solo or with friends, on a trail, track, around the block or while playing with your kids, it all counts.
2. Join a Local Group Run or Strava Group for motivation
There are lots of wonderful groups to join locally, included but not limited to the Green Bay Running Club, Pacesetters, Run | Neenah, Running Water City and the Fond du Lac Running Club. There are also groups like She Runs This Town that organize several weekly group runs. We also host regular free fun runs and demo runs - follow along on our Facebook Events page! Finally, join our Strava group!
Use the day to kickstart a new goal—like training for your first 5K, improving your mile time, or committing to a regular running schedule. There are lots of wonderful races coming up this year, including our annual Houdini 10K.
Donate to or raise awareness for organizations that use running to promote wellness, youth empowerment, or social change (like Girls on the Run or a local school cross country or track program)
Treat yourself to a new pair of socks, a fun tank top, or a new pair of shoes ca be EXTREMELY motivating and we have all of that and more at Run Away Shoes!
